Septic System Installation in Longview & Gregg County

The digging is the short part. Almost all of the elapsed time is spent before anyone turns up with a machine.

Nothing here is optional and nothing here is quick. The stages marked as gates are the ones that hold up a closing or a build, and every one of them is waiting on somebody else's calendar rather than on you.

What happens, in order

  1. Evaluation

Borings, texture, water table, slope, setbacks. This produces the document every later decision is made from. See what the evaluator is actually looking for.

  2. Design

System type, size, layout and location, drawn against the evaluation and the setbacks. On a constrained lot this is the stage where you find out what is possible.

  3. Submission and review

Paperwork to Gregg County Health Department, with the fee. Review takes as long as it takes; building anything on top of an assumed approval date is how schedules break.

  4. Authorisation

Written permission to begin. Work started before this is work that may have to be undone, and no inspector is obliged to accept it after the fact.

  5. Installation

Tanks set, trenches or beds cut, pipe laid, power run where the system needs it. Days, usually, not weeks, assuming the weather cooperates and the ground is workable.

  6. Inspection, before anything is covered

This is the hard gate. A system that is backfilled before it is seen is a system that may be getting dug up again.

  7. Approval, and only then use

The final document is what makes the system lawful to use, and it is what a buyer's solicitor will look for in five years.

Sequence the house around the system, not the other way round

The single most expensive mistake on a new build is placing the house, the drive and the outbuildings first and then discovering the only viable drainfield location is under one of them. Get the evaluation quoted first →

Who is allowed to do the work

Installation is licensed work. Someone other than the property owner doing it must hold the relevant state certification, and using an uncertified installer is not a shortcut: it is an approval that never arrives, on a system you have already paid for.
